BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—The CSU Bakersfield baseball team welcomes Utah Valley to Hardt Field this week for a three-game Western Athletic Conference series.
Due to the Easter holiday all WAC series will be played Thursday-Saturday this week. Games one and two of the CSUB-UVU series will begin at 6 p.m. with the Saturday series finale getting underway at 12 p.m. Thursday and Saturday’s games will be available on the Roadrunner Sports Network with Friday’s game begin streamed on the WAC Digital Network. All three games will be heard on 1230 AM/98.1 FM ESPN with Corey Costelloe’s pregame show beginning at 5:45 p.m.
Utah Valley fell to 11-20 this season Tuesday night when BYU defeated the Wolverines 8-3. UVU is 4-2 in WAC play. Saturday’s Wolverine starter, Jake Mayer, was named WAC Pitcher of the Week last Monday. He tossed a three-hit complete game shutout against UIW last Saturday. Jackson Overlund is ninth in the WAC in hitting at .360. Overlund has hit four home runs and driven in a team high 23 runs.
Lefty Jackson Cofer (1-4) is scheduled to face Max Carter (R, 5-1) on Thursday. Mayer (R, 2-6) is Saturday’s UVU probable starter. CSUB will throw either Andrew Hansen (R, 2-0) or Aaron Charles (R, 1-0) on Friday. Hansen or Charles will go on Saturday. UVU has not named a starter for Saturday’s game. Utah Valley leads the all-time series against CSUB 9-2.
Ryan Grotjohn recorded his 13th multi-hit game of the year Tuesday night as helped lead CSUB past CSUN 4-2. Hitting .426, Grotjohn was 2-for-4 against the Matadors. Garrett Nimmo earned the victory after going the first seven innings. He gave way to Isaiah Moten in the eighth. Naithen Dewsnap closed the game, earning his sixth save. Dewnsap struck out the side in the ninth.
