ELK GROVE, Calif. ? Jennifer Beggs shot a team-best 81 in the opening round of the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club Monday, helping the CSUB women's golf team to 339, fourth-place standing through one day of action.
Scores were high throughout the opening day as strong winds wreaked havoc. Santa Clara holds the team lead at the midway point with a total of 310. Montana State is second at 311, host Sacramento State is in third at 316, CSUB is fourth and North Dakota is fifth at 342.
Beggs carded a 43 through her first nine holes, then cut her strokes to 38 on the second nine to hold a tie for 14th in the field of 35. Meggan Bellows shot an 86, good for a tie of 24th place while Ashley Neal stands in a tie for 26th with a first-round score of 87.
The Roadrunners' fifth team member, Jennifer Davison, withdrew from the tournament and did not record a score on the par-72, 6,077 yard course.
The tournament concludes with another 18-hole round on Tuesday morning. Tee time is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. with the round wrapping up around 3 p.m.
