CSUB Wins DMR at USC's Trojan Relays


LOS ANGELES - The CSUB men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Trojan Relays in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon, hosted by USC. The 'Runners had multiple strong performances headlined by win in the men's distance medley relay in which CSUB beat 14 other teams.

In the DMR, Ryan Lucker ran the 800, Ryan Nichols ran the 400, and Jose Orozco ran the 1,200 meter portion of the race. But it came down to Edward Lee's 1,600 meter final leg in which Lee overtook Cal State Fullerton in the final 100 meters to win in 10:25.73. Daniel Hernandez placed third in the 400 meter hurdles (57.52) and Orozco placed eighth (9:13.66) in the 3,000 meter run. The men's 4x200 meter relay placed fourth in 1:30.64) with Nichols, Brandon Washington, Josh Ham and Cameron Jost compiling the team.
Nichols placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 22-07. On his first jump of the day he had a mark that would have cleared 23 feet but was called for a foul on the attempt.

CSUB had three runner-up finishes in the throwing events led by Steve Trojanowski was the top collegiate finisher in the hammer throw with a toss of 185-03. Evan Wahl was second in the javelin with a mark of 154-07 and Derek Johnson earned runner-up status in the discus with a distance of 162-02.

The women's 4x200 relay, comprised of Sheena Cooper, Princess Watts, Briana Woodfox and Connie King, placed fourth in 1:48.51. Both the 4x400 meter (4:05.10) and distance medley (13:15.28) relays finished sixth on Sunday. Jenah Kincaid was fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.40) and seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.23).

"We are very happy with everyone's performances today," coach Robert Boyles said. "We are dropping times which is a great way to start our outdoor season. The DMR was a great race and both of our 4x400 meter relay teams improved their times which was good to see."

CSUB will take next weekend off to train before heading to Northridge, Calif., on March 13-14.
