OXNARD, Calif. ? The CSUB women's golf team ran into a tough course in the form of the Victoria Lakes Course at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard Sunday, finishing the first of three rounds at the Morehead State Spring Kick-Off with a 345 team score.
In the field of eight NCAA Division I women's teams, Florida International finished opening day with a score of 298 to lead the pack. Eastern Michigan followed with a 308 and host Morehead State is currently in third (313).
Florida International's Belen Buendia was the lone golfer to break par, shooting a 2-under 70 on the 6,129 yard course.
Bakersfield's top finisher was sophomore Jenna Barnett, who is currently in a tie for 29th after carding an 85. Teammates Jennifer Beggs and Jennifer Davison are in a tie for 33 after each shooting an 86. Meggan Bellows is in 39th with a first-round score of 88 and Ashley Neal rounded out the Roadrunner five with a 113.
“The two courses we have played on so far this spring have been very difficult,” said CSUB Head Coach Tracy Draa. “We need to learn from our mistakes, look forward to the next two rounds of this tournament and work on improving our scores from day-to-day.”
