BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield returns to Hardt Field for the first time in 17 days Tuesday night when the Roadrunners host Nebraska. Coverage on the WAC Digital Network begins at 6 p.m.
The Cornhuskers are 9-8 after sweep the College of Charleston last weekend at home. Angelo Altavilla is the leading Nebraska hitter (.354). Scott Schriber leads the team in home runs (2) and RBI’s (17).
This is the seventh time that CSUB and Nebraska are playing baseball against one another. The Roadrunners lead the all-time series 4-2 after defeating the Huskers 9-4 Feb. 15, 2013 in the last game between the two clubs. Righty Matt Waldron (1-2) is Tuesday’s probable starter for Nebraska. CSUB’s starter is to be determined.
Senior shortstop Ryan Grotjohn had a record setting day Mar. 18 at UC Riverside. Grotjohn tied or reset two school records against the Highlanders. He was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and three RBIs, tying the CSUB record for most hits in a game and setting a new record for most doubles in a game.
On the weekend, he was 10-for-15 for a .667 average, also posting a 1.000 slugging percentage with five doubles. He was 1-for-2 on stolen base attempts, scored four times and drove in five RBIs. As a result, Grotjohn was named Western Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week ending Mar. 19.
Grotjohn begins the week of Mar. 20 seventh in Division I in batting (.463), 11th in hits per game (1.8), 18th in doubles per game (0.53), 39th in on-base percentage (.508), 53rd in doubles (8), and 62nd in slugging percentage (.672).
