BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—No. 1 USC tied the national record for consecutive wins, as the Women of Troy defeated No. 23 CSU Bakersfield 14-3 Saturday afternoon. USC improved to 19-0 (1-0 MPSF) in 2017 and now have won 46 in a row dating back to the final game of the 2015 season. The UCLA women’s program established the consecutive win’s record from 2007-09.

The Women of Troy forced 16 Roadrunner turnovers which resulted in seven goals. USC made 13 steals compared to four for CSUB. 10 different players scored with four; Maude Megens, Stephania Haralbidis, Kelsey McIntosh, and Brigitta Games each scoring twice.

USC outshot CSUB 32-18. Roadrunner goalie Courtney Wahlstrom kept CSUB in the game as she made 15 saves and two steals. Freshman McKenzie Beardsley scored twice for the ‘Runners.

“Courtney played great,” said CSUB head coach Jason Gall. “She was fantastic with 15 saves. It was nice to see a freshman like McKenzie score a couple of goals in a game against the number one team in the country. We did some good things, but we had a couple of bad spurts and that is what hurt us today.”

The Roadrunners (8-8, 0-2 MPSF) head to No. 12 UC Santa Barbara (12-6) Sunday for a 12 p.m. matchup.
