THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.--The CSU Bakersfield water polo team won both of their matches by a combined 35-5 score on day one of the Cal Lutheran Tina Finali Invitational Friday.
The Roadrunners opened the tournament with a 18-3 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.). CSUB led 7-2 at half before shutting out the Terriers 8-0 in the third quarter. Ruby Versfeld's hat trick paced the 'Runner offensive attack. Kristen Jensen scored twice and assisted on four other goals. Courtney Wahlstrom made 10 saves in goal.
The Roadrunners defeated Siena College 17-2 in the final match of the day. CSUB shutout the Saints in the first half as the 'Runners took a 7-0 lead into the break. Ashley Paz scored a season high five goals to pace CSUB. Lindsey Paulson and Madison East would each post two goals. 11 different Roadrunners scored during the match. Wahlstrom made seven saves.The two goals were the fewest allowed in a match by a CSUB team since the 'Runners gave up two in two different matches during the 2003 season.
"We had good offensive effeciency and played good team defense in each game today," said CSUB head coach Jason Gall.
