BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Senior Paola Hernandez posted three individual wins and led a CSU Bakersfield relay squad to a victory, but the Roadrunners fell in a home dual to Fresno State on Saturday. The Bulldogs outlasted CSUB to take their second-straight dual win over the ‘Runners, 183-117.

“Paola having four wins was big for us,” said Chris Hansen, CSUB’s Director of Swimming. “She had an amazing day. She loves to race, but also knows how to race. This young group should look up to her.”

Hansen went on to highlight some of his other top performers from Saturday’s dual: “Sabrina Zavala always impresses me when she races. She is hungry and it shows. Dylana Milobar, Maddie Cosgrove, Jayssie Haynes, and Hannah Chernabaeff also had a great day. Fresno State is tough; they always do a great job. We did well today. I’m looking forward to [the Western Athletic Conference Championships in] February.”

Hernandez anchored the women’s 400 free relay to a convincing win to wrap up the meet. The native of Lompoc, Calif. also won the 100 fly (57.35), 100 free (52.46), and 200 free (1:53.19). Fellow senior Dylana Milobar swam to a dominant victory in the 100 breast. Her time of 1:05.14 was more than three seconds faster than any other competitor.

Senior Carlee Burks had a disappointing finish on the 1-meter board, placing second with 269.55 points. The native of Bakersfield rebounded with a strong finish on the 3-meter to take first place. Burks scored 282.75 points, edging out Fresno State’s Shelbie Holden by less than a point.

Sophomore Sabrina Zavala got into a tight, three-way battle for first in the 1000 free, but wound up in third place, less than two seconds behind the winner. Zavala finished with a time of 10:31.76, improving her season-best time in the event by almost ten seconds.

Full results from Saturday’s dual will be made available in this article later in the day.
