CHICAGO – A convincing, 6-0 victory in the Windy City over Chicago State gave CSU Bakersfield’s women’s soccer team its third win in the last four matches on Friday. The Roadrunners earned another victory in Western Athletic Conference play behind goals from five different student-athletes.

After the match, Gary Curneen, Head Coach of the ‘Runners, was pleased with the result in Chicago: “Our start to the game was good and scoring early gave us a platform to build from. We were more clinical in front of goal than we have been all season and credit to our forwards for taking their chances when they arrived.”

CSUB got out to a quick start with a ninth-minute goal by freshman Sophie Freeman. The Bakersfield native netted an unassisted goal for her second of the season to put CSUB ahead 1-0.

The ‘Runners tacked on two more goals to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. Alexa Orrante’s cross into the box found Aminah Settles, who put away her third goal of the season in the 33rd minute. Ten minutes later, CSUB struck again, this time, on Sabrina Delgado’s foot. The sophomore, who leads CSUB in goals this season, registered her seventh of the year on redshirt senior Whitney Strong’s first assist.

In the second half, defender Maja Green slotted a pass for Settles to put the ‘Runners ahead 4-0. The 55th-minute goal was Settles’ second of the game. At 66:00, Delgado returned the first-half favor to Strong, assisting Bakersfield’s only senior for her first career goal.

One minute and 25 seconds later, CSUB capped off the scoring when freshman Darian Gambetta scored off of a rebound to make the score 6-0. The Roadrunners improved to 6-8-1 (2-1-0 WAC) with the victory, tying their win total from the 2015 season. Six wins also happens to be tied for CSUB’s best Division I win total while the ‘Runners have four regular-season matches remaining this year.

The 6-0 victory was CSUB’s fourth shutout of the season, tying the CSUB Division I best total set in 2007. Sophomore Jen Padilla started the match in goal and split halves with freshman Jordan Bertam. Padilla earned her sixth win of the year while the two combined for CSUB’s shutout.

The 'Runners will wrap up their road trip on Sunday, Oct. 16, with a match at UMKC. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CT) and the match will be live on the WAC Digital Network. After the trip to Missouri, CSUB will head home to wrap up regular-season play with three straight home WAC matches. Tickets for each of those games are available ahead of time at
