RUSTON, La.--Louisiana Tech exploded for nine runs and eight hits in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Bulldogs defeated Bakersfield 9-4 in the Western Athletic Conference series finale Sunday afternoon.
After only putting three on base through the first five innings, the Bulldogs (16-32, 4-17 WAC) posted four consecutive singles with one out to take a 4-0 lead. After a walk and a base hit, Taylor Burch would hit a grand slam home run. Two more hits led to one additional run.
Oscar Sanay's (Jr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) sac fly in the top of the seventh plated Kris Cayton (Jr., Manhattan Beach, Calif., LA Harbor College). LA Tech outhit CSUB 12-9 with four players each posting two. Chance Gusbeth (Fr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS) had three hits including an RBI single in the top of the ninth for Bakersfield. Sanay added an RBI double in the ninth for two on the day. Tyler Shryock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif., Desert Christian HS) posted two hits and a RBI.
The Roadrunners return home for the final time next weekend when Bakersfield (31-18, 14-7 WAC) hosts Seattle University. The series gets underway Friday at 6 p.m. CSUB maintains a one-game lead in the WAC standings after UT Arlington lost 5-2 to Dallas Baptist Sunday.
