BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—CSU Bakersfield (8-3) extended its
baseball winning streak to five when the Roadrunners defeated LIU Brooklyn
(0-6) 10-3 Sunday afternoon.
Leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, CSUB exploded for eight
runs, the most scored in a single inning this season by the Roadrunners. Frank
Martinez (Sr., Riverside, Calif., East LA College) and Oscar Sanay (Jr., Chula
Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) both drove in three runs during the inning with
extra base hits.
CSU Bakersfield added one run in the fourth. LIU scored for
the first time in the sixth. The
Blackbirds would add two more in the seventh.
Roadrunner starter Jonathan Montoya (R-Sr., Chino Hills,
Calif., Chino Hills HS) picked off two LIU base runners to end early
Blackbirds' threats. He went five to
earn his second victory of the year. Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa
Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) and Tyler Shyrock (Jr., Tehachapi,
Calif., Desert Christian HS) both recorded two hits.
The Roadrunners hit the road for the first time this season
after 11 games at Hardt Field to open 2013. CSUB is at UC Irvine Tuesday night
for a 6:30 p.m.
