BAKERSFIELD, Calif.— Dylan Christensen (Sr., Rancho Santa
Margarita, Calif., Saddleback College) went for 4-for-4 with two RBI's and CSU
Bakersfield (7-3) won its fourth in a row, 7-3, over LIU Brooklyn (0-5)
Saturday night at Hardt Field.
LIU scored in the top of the third on a CSUB passed ball to
break the seal. Christensen tied the score in the bottom of the inning with an
RBI triple.
Back-to-back CSUB errors led to a pair of LIU runs in the
top of the fifth. CSUB loaded the bases
with outs in the fifth, but could not
convert the chance as Garrett Pierce (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Centennial HS)
fouled out to short to end the inning.
Mylz Jones (So., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) brought
CSUB to within one at 3-2 with an RBI single in the sixth. Despite having a runner
picked off second in the seventh, CSUB tied the score when Oscar Sanay (Jr.,
Chula Vista, Bonita Vista HS) singled in Tyler Shyrock (Jr., Tehachapi, Calif,
Desert Christian HS).
Cael Brockmeyer (Jr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms
HS) opened the bottom of the eighth by reaching on a throwing error by LIU
third baseman Albert Faz. Kris Kayton (Jr., Manhattan Beach, Calif., LA Harbor
College) sacrificed Brockmeyer to second, but the throw by Blackbirds' pitcher
Tito Marrero went into right field, allowing Brockmeyer to score and Cayton to
move to third. Two batters later, Kevin Younger's (Sr., Bakersfield, Calif.,
Liberty HS) safety squeeze plated Cayton. Christensen added an RBI single for a
three-run advantage. Sanay added his second RBI of the night to make it 7-3.
Saturday's marked the seventh time CSUB trailed with the
Roadrunners posting a 5-2 record. Sanay and Jones both had two hits for CSUB.
Roadrunner pitchers Scott Brattvet (Sr., Trabuco Canyon, Calif., Santa Ana
College) and Taylor Aikenhead (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Desert Christian HS)
combined on a four-hitter and nine strikeouts.
The Roadrunners and the Blackbirds conclude the series
Sunday at 1 p.m.
