BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-Women's basketball student-athlete Tyonna Outland, (So.
Compton, Calif., Lynwood HS) has been named CSUB's Student Athlete of the Week
for the week of January 28.
Outland recently scored 14 in CSUB's win over Chicago State, and the
game before that Outland recorded her first double-double of the season with 20
points and 11 rebounds in the win over Utah Valley.
CSUB's Women's Basketball has recently turned their season
around with a five-game winning streak.
Three of their five recent wins have come against fellow Western
Athletic Conference teams Utah Valley, Texas Pan American and Chicago State.
Outland has been a great asset to the Runners' averaging 11.2 points per game
as well as 4.4 rebounds per game and a .366 shooting percentage.
In her first two seasons at CSUB, Outland had success on the
court. Her freshman year Outland
was named to the All-WBI Tournament Team, averaged 11.1 points per game, and
scored in double figured in 19-of-34 games. Her sophomore year Outland played seven games before having to take a medical red shirt year after suffering a left knee
injury during practice. In her seven games last year Outland was averaging 14.6 points per game.
Outland is a criminal justice major at CSUB and was also
recently honored by the Bakersfield Jockey Club for her achievements as well.
