- Jazmin Lopez (Sr., Baldwin Park, Calif., Mt. San Antonio College)
posted the fastest time for CSU Bakersfield cross country team on Saturday at the
Triton Cross Country Classic Invitational with a time 24:07.9. Her mark was
good enough to place 52nd out of 238 runners in the 6K event.
As a team, the
Roadrunners placed 18th out of 22 teams in a challenging field that included a
talented women's field of Division I schools like meet champion Loyola
Marymount and runner-up San Diego State.
Monica Guzman (Jr.,
Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) had her best performance of the year by
clocking a 25:37.7 to place143rd, while Jorey Braughton (R-So., Bakersfield,
Calif., Centennial HS) finished right behind her at 144th with a 25:39.4. Anaiz Ortiz (Jr., Palmdale,
Calif., Antelope Valley College) recorded a 25:55.4 mark to place 155th and
Melisa Cruz (Bakersfield, Calif., West HS) took 169th with a 26:16.2.
"Everybody raced
incredibly tough today," said CSUB head coach Ashley Benson. "It was a real
breakthrough performance for Monica Guzman."
Up next, the
'Runners will be racing in the Northridge Invitational on Oct. 13. The meet
will be the last of the regular season before the 'Runners will head to their
first-ever GWC Championship meet on Oct. 27.
