CSU Bakersfield Swimming Hosts Senior Day Saturday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The CSU Bakersfield swimming programs will host Senior Day Saturday. The Roadrunner men will play host to Cal Baptist while the CSUB women will take on Cal Baptist and Loyola Marymount. The action gets underway at 1 p.m.

Men's seniors that will be honored are Peter Bardessono (Elverta, Calif., American River College), Vance Elmore (Bakersfield, Calif., University of Hawaii), Bobby Klagge (Granite Bay, Calif., Granite Bay HS), and Chris Pipes (Fresno, Calif., Merced College). Women's seniors being honored are Chelsey Ankeny (Ontario, Calif., Riverside CC), Sara Brady (Tehachapi, Calif., Bakersfield College), Rachel McCall (Calgary, Alberta, National Sport School), Isabell Nystrom (Stockholm, Sweden, Limestone College), and Katrina Thomas (Bakersfield, Calif., Golden Valley HS).

“I am super excited to end our dual meet season with some fast swims,” said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. “This is bittersweet because I am graduating an amazing class! Bobby Klagge and I started at the same time and to watch him grow as a swimmer and person has been amazing. I can honestly say that each senior here this year has helped me one way or other turn the direction of CSUB swimming and diving to a top DI program.”

On the men's side, the Roadrunners are coming off a 165-97 loss to UC San Diego Jan. 14. Mitchell Huxhold (Fr., Escondido, Calif., San Pasqual HS) was named MPSF Men's Swimmer of the Week Jan. 17 after winning the 500 free and 1000 free during the meet.

The CSUB women dropped a pair of duals last weekend against San Jose State and UC Davis. Rachel McCall (Sr., Calgary, Alberta, National Sport School) won two individual races and helped CSU Bakersfield to two relay victories on the weekend.

McCall's times in her victories in the 200 free (1:52.12 vs UC Davis), 500 free (4:59.49 vs. UC Davis), and 400 free relay (52.33 leadoff vs. UC Davis) were season bests. Her time in the 500 free is the second fastest in CSUB history. She helped the Roadrunners to a victory in the 200 freestyle relay against San Jose State (24.12 leadoff).

McCall finished second in four other events (200 medley relay vs. San Jose State) (50 free vs. UC San Jose State) (100 breaststroke vs. San Jose State) (50 free vs. UC Davis) during the duals.
