CSUB Men?s Basketball Adds Two More To 2012 Recruiting Class

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.---CSUB Head Men's Basketball Coach Rod Barnes has announced the signing of Mo Hughley and Tyrone White to National Letters of Intent to begin play for the Roadrunners next season.

Hughley is a 6-7 forward who will arrive in Bakersfield from Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas. Hughley was named honorable mention NJCAA All-Region XIV this past season as PJC advanced to the semifinals of the Region XIV Men's Basketball Tournament. A native of Queens, N.Y., Hughley was eighth in Region XIV in rebounding in 2011 at 7.6 rpg. He averaged 9.7 points per game and recorded 22 blocks as a sophomore.

Hughley spent the 2009-10 season at Chaffey (Junior) College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"A major focus of our recruiting effort this spring was to add depth and size to our front line.  Signing Maurice Hughley is a huge step in satisfying those needs for our program," said CSU Bakersfield Head Coach Rod Barnes. "Mo brings us a significant physical presence inside but is a very active and tough-minded player who will see considerable minutes at both forward positions next year.  I expect him to be a valuable contributor to us next year using his size and athleticism to be a force in the paint on both ends of the floor.

White, who is 6-6, can play both guard and forward. He transfers to CSUB from North Idaho (Junior) College and he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. White averaged 12.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore when NIC advanced to the semifinals of the Region 18 Tournament in 2010-11. White was second on the team in scoring, rebounding and assists (42). He was third on the squad in steals (25). White began his collegiate career at Utah State where as a freshman he appeared in 17 games.

White led Jefferson High School in his native Portland, Ore. to a 2008 state championship after averaging 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.0 assists per game. White was the Jefferson Student Body President as he posted 3.5 GPA. White graduated from Jefferson and spent a year at at Air Force Academy Prep where he averaged 16.0 PPG, 8.0 RPG, and 4.0 APG. During his one year at Air Force Prep, he scored 30 or more points four times including a season-high 39 points against Northwestern Colorado Community College.

"Tyrone is a very versatile perimeter player who is probably the most well-rounded and developed player of this recruiting class to date," Barnes said. "Tyrone will see minutes at all three positions in the backcourt for us next year. He can score the basketball and brings an excellent skill set to our program.  Most importantly, we really like that he is a proven winner who has advanced deep into post-season play at both the high school and at the collegiate levels."

Hughley and White join Kwai Pearson and Jordan Walker (who signed with the Roadrunners Apr. 28) in the 2011-12 recruiting class.
