Medina Pitches And Hits CSUB Past K-State 13-10

MANHATTAN, Kan.--Martin Medina (Jr., Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure HS) pitched and hit CSUB (26-16) past Kansas State (27-18) 13-10 Wednesday night at Tointon Stadium. Medina, who started the night as the Roadrunner designated hitter, came on in relief in the second inning and recorded the longest outing of his career, eight innings (his previous career high was 5.2). Medina, who threw 143 pitches in his stint on the hill, retired nine straight Wildcat batters at one point and struck out nine while only walking one. He hit his eighth home run of the year as he went 2-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored.

The Roadrunners took a 2-0 in the top of the first only to see Mike Kindel and Jared King hit home runs in the bottom of the frame to give K-State a 4-2 advantage. CSUB notched one run in the second, but the Wildcats again scored four runs to lead 8-3 after two complete. The Roadrunners scored three in the third, but Kansas State got one back for a 9-6 lead.

Medina's two-RBI single keyed a CSUB four-run rally in the top of the fourth to return the lead back to the Roadrunners, 10-9. CSUB scored twice in the fifth as Cael Brockmeyer (Fr., Vineyard Haven, Mass., Avon Old Farms HS) smacked his second home run of the year.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats loaded the bases for pinch hitter Mitch Meyer who grounded into a fielder's choice for the second out and bring in 10th K-State run. Dan Klein, who homered earlier in the game, struck out to end the inning. Medina's home run in the ninth made it the final 13-10.

Brockmeyer had three hits (3-for-5). Ryan McIntyre (Jr., Henderson, Nev., Coronado HS) was 3-for-6 with three runs scored. Andrew Letourneau (Jr., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Oscar Sanay (Fr., Chula Vista, Calif., Bonita Vista HS) was 3-for-6 with an RBI. DC Legg (Jr., Murrietta, Calif., Cypress College) hit his third home run of the year, a three-run blast, in the third inning and went 2-for-6 on the night.

Kansas State hit four home runs in the game. Kindel went 2-for-5 with a home run, a triple, and five RBI's to lead Kansas State. Nick Martini had two hits and two runs scored. Ross Kivett also had two hits.

CSUB opens a three-game set with Loyola Marymount Saturday night at Hardt Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
