BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – CSUB dropped a 101–92 decision to Miami (Ohio) in NCAA women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
Junior guard Kristine Herman (San Ramon, Calif./Florida Gulf Coast) and freshman guard Tyonna Outland (Compton, Calif./Lynwood HS) each turned in career–best performances as Herman led CSUB with 32 points while Outland scored 21.
CSUB found itself behind early as Miami (Ohio) began the game with nine unanswered points, holding the Roadrunners scoreless through the first four minutes. Behind a 12–point first half performance from Herman, the 'Runners were able to rally back from an 11–point deficit. Herman hit a trey to tie the game for the first time with a little over eight minutes to play. The 'Runners grabbed the lead for the first time with three minutes remaining thanks to a Britney McGee (Bakersfield, Calif./Univ. of Albany) three–pointer to put the Roadrunners ahead by one, however, the RedHawks sunk one of their own from behind the arc and took a one–point lead (38–37) into the break.
The second half remained close throughout the first 10 minutes, however, Miami (Ohio) used a 14–4 run to gain a double–digit lead once again. The Roadrunners and Redhawks exchanged buckets for the final eight minutes but CSUB was never able to chip away the deficit.
Miami (Ohio) had four players finish in double–figure scoring highlighted by 34 points from junior Maggie Boyer.
Senior Breana Fields (Sacramento, Calif./San Jose State) was the only other 'Runner to finish with double–figure scoring (11 points). Three different players led CSUB with six rebounds.
There was a total of 59 free throws attempted between the two teams as CSUB went 22–29 from the line while Miami (Ohio) went 21–30.
CSUB heads back to the Icardo Center as it hosts UC Santa Barbara on Tuesday, Dec. 14. Tip–off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
