Nation?s Best From Coast to Coast Await Roadrunners in 2010

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -  The CSUB women's basketball schedule for 2010–11 will send the Roadrunners on trips nearly equivalent to the circumference world, taking on some of the nation's top teams including four NCAA Tournament qualifying teams from a year ago. The 'Runners are in their first year of NCAA Division I tournament eligibility and are looking to continue one of the nation's prestigious streaks of being the only team in history to make the tournament every year the team has been eligible.

“Our goal is to make the NCAA Tournament,” says Head Coach Tim La Kose. “We are playing a challenging schedule which will help us get there. There are some big time names on our schedule and we were invited to some marquee tournaments in Hawaii and Oregon. Getting to test ourselves against teams that qualified last season will only make our program better as we continue moving forward.”

HOME SCHEDULE
The Roadrunners will take to the Icardo Center floor 13 times during the year, starting with a Nov. 8 exhibition contest against Fresno Pacific University. Highlighting the home schedule are two NCAA Tournament qualifying teams from last year. The Bulldogs of Fresno State, the defending Western Athletic Conference Champions, take on the 'Runners on Dec. 8. The Atlantic–10's Dayton Flyers visit Bakersfield on Dec. 22. The Flyers advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament before falling to Tennessee.

ROAD SCHEDULE

You will be hard pressed to find a team that will take to the road (and in most cases air) more often than the 2010–11 Roadrunners. Round trip for the team's 18 road and neutral contests come out to a little more than 24,000 miles of travel, nearly the circumference of the Earth (24,901.55 miles). Awaiting the 'Runners at their chosen destinations will be some of the nation's top teams, including a pair of NCAA Tournament qualifiers.

CSUB will get a crash course right out of the gate as its first road trip takes it to San Diego State on Nov. 17. The Aztecs are fresh off a Sweet 16 appearance in last year's NCAA tournament. Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Roadrunners head to the University of Oregon Tournament on Nov. 26–28. CSUB will play three games in three days in Eugene, Ore., against Sacramento State, Idaho and host Oregon. Matchups for specific dates will be released at a later date.

The 'Runners head to Oregon State on Nov. 30 after the Oregon Tournament to take on the Beavers, a team they beat last year for the program's first Pac–10 victory. CSUB then heads across the continent for a Dec. 3 date at Florida International University. While in the Sunshine State, the Roadrunners will also take on ACC power Miami on Dec. 5.

Roadrunner players will have to quickly return from their respective Christmas breaks as the team heads out for a three–day tournament at the University of Hawaii beginning on Dec. 28. CSUB opens with UNLV on Dec. 28, Ivy League member Columbia on Dec. 29 and finishes with the host Rainbow Wahine on Dec. 30. Game times for the tournament will be released at a later date.

Big West Champion UC Riverside hosts the 'Runners on Jan. 22 at the Student Recreation Center.
