BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The CSUB volleyball team kicks off its inaugural season of full NCAA Division I eligibility with the first day of preseason training Monday in the Icardo Center. Monday morning's 9 a.m. practice will be the first of 29 scheduled practice sessions over 17 days leading up to the season opener against Drake at the University of North Dakota Tournament Aug. 27.

The Roadrunners will take part in two–a–day practices in the Icardo Center each Monday through Saturday prior to opening day. Given the relative youth of the team and a grueling early season schedule, each session will be important.

Head Coach John Price begins his 14th season at the Roadrunner helm with a youthful roster of which seven of his 14 players will be in their first season of NCAA volleyball. The team returns just two seniors from 2009, outside hitter Lindsay Toone and defensive specialist Allison Cote, both Liberty High School products.

The young players will have to grow up quickly for the 'Runners to taste success against a monster early schedule that features four Pac–10 opponents (Arizona, Cal, UCLA & USC) in the first 23 days. The UCLA match will be CSUB's home opener in the Icardo Center on Sept. 9.
