Men?s Soccer Inks Two for 2010

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jurgen Chambers and Joseph Masumiya both signed National Letters of Intent, joining the CSUB men's soccer program in the fall of 2010, Roadrunner Head Coach Simon Tobin announced Friday.

Chambers is a left-sided midfielder who hails from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale. In addition to starring for the Olympians, Chambers has been a member of the L.A. Galaxy youth academy, alongside current CSUB goalkeeper Eric Shannon, and the Chivas USA youth academy.

“Jurgen is a pacy left-sided player who will contribute immediately in the fall,” said Tobin. “He offers great skill and ability to beat defenders and create scoring opportunities.”

Masumiya joins the Roadrunners following a standout prep career at Lakewood High School. The central and outside midfielder brings great passing ability and expertise on set pieces.

“Joseph is a strong-running midfielder with the ability to play wide or centrally,” said Tobin. “Both of these players give us additional weapons in our attack and we look forward to their growth in the program.”

The Roadrunners concluded the 2009 season with an 8-7-2 overall record and a 3-4-0, fourth-place finish in the MPSF. The overall record of 8-7-2 marked the first time CSUB had achieved a winning record since making the move to Division I in 2007. Beginning in the fall of 2010, Bakersfield will have full NCAA DI status and will be eligible to contend for the MPSF title and the conference's automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
