ROADRUNNER MEN'S SOCCER ODDS & ENDS

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: The Roadrunners' season-opening, 10-match road swing continues this week at the Cal State Fullerton Tournament. This week's tournament is the second of four on  CSUB's schedule, with the next two taking the ?Runners to New York and Spokane, Wash. CSUB also travel to San Luis Obispo and Irvine before playing for the first time on the Main Soccer Field on Sept. 28.

DEFENSIVE STRONGHOLD: Led by senior goalkeeper Steve Trojanwoski (La Verne/Damien HS), the Roadrunner defense turned in a solid effort through a pair of 1-0 losses last week. Single miscues in the opening five minutes against Sac State and in the final two minutes against UC Davis were the only blemishes on the back line's play.

LET'S GET OFFENSIVE: CSUB has managed just 11 total shots, six on goal, through two matches. Creating more opportunities in the final third of the field is a must for the Roadrunner squad heading into the second week of play. Senior Towa Manda (Fountain Valley HS), 2007's leading scorer, and junior Matt Shaxton (Gloucestershire, England/Hartpury College) will be looked upon to lead the effort up top.

ALL-TOURNEY HONORS: Steve Trojanowski, who collected nine saves in the two matches, and sophomore defender Wayne Lampart (San Diego/Steel Canyon HS) were both named to the Copa de Causeway all-tournament team.

MATADOR NOTES: Nine returning starters from 2007's squad that went 7-7-6 have helped lead Cal State Northridge to 1-1 record heading into this week's competition. The Matadors opened the season with a 1-0 loss Georgetown, but bounced back two days later for a 2-0 win over Alabama A&M. Junior Sunghyun Kim and sophomore Camilo Rojas have each tallied one goal, while senior goalkeeper Kevin Guppy has six saves and one shutout.

TITAN NOTES: With a pair of matches under their belts so far this season, the Titans are 1-1. A 2-0 win over Alabama A&M served as the season-opener, but was followed by a 2-0 loss to Georgetown. Senior Josh Meyer and junior Matt Sanders scored Fullerton's two goals: one off a penalty kick and one off a free kick. Goalkeeper Kevin Puder has nine saves and one shutout through 180 minutes of play. Fullerton completed the 2007 season with a 7-10-3 overall record and a sixth place finish in the Big West.
