2014-2015... A season that saw a number of new faces join the cheer program, the 2014-15 CSU Bakersfield cheer team took yet another step towards emerging onto the national stage. The season got underway in Las Vegas at NCA summer team camp where the cheer team was awarded third place for all Division I small co-ed cheer following their rally routine performance. In addition, the cheer team was presented a sliver bid to the 2015 NCA College nationals in Daytona Beach and had two athletes selected to serve on NCA staff for the next season. 2014-15 was also a season filled with community service events at the Kern County Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, and various cancer awareness events. The season included a set of performances as participates of the PPAACC circuit and concluded on April 11 at Stockdale High School in Bakersfield as the CSUB cheer team was crowned the 2015 PPAACC Collegiate Cheer champions.
2013-2014... Joining the Roadrunners in October of 2013 coach Smith brings a wealth of knowledge in the arena of overall campus spirit and in coaching collegiate cheerleading.
2006-2010... Coach Smith served as the spirit coordinator/head cheerleading coach for Purdue University. During his tenure his Boilermaker cheer team placed in the top 5 at NCA College Nationals in Division 1A each year they attended. In addition his Boilermakers placed more than 100 student-athletes on the Dean’s List of Honor roll during his tenure.
2005-2006... Coach Smith served as the head cheerleading coach for the Wichita State University small co-ed team. During his tenure his shockers made great strides the improvement of the spirit program in the areas of skill development and in the classroom. The 2006 Shockers cheerleading team won the Nation’s Best National Championship, the first for the program in Division 1. His Shocker team placed more than 20 student-athletes on the honor roll list in the lone season at the helm
Personal... Prior to coaching coach Smith was a member of the Wichita State University large co-ed cheerleading team serving as captain from 2003-2005 and winning the MTXE leadership award in 2001. As a member of the spirit squad his teams placed 5th in 2003 and 2nd at the National Cheerleaders Association in 2004, 2005, 2006.
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Arthur graduated in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Ethnic Studies and Women’s Studies along with a minor in sociology from Wichita State University.
Coach Smith is certified in first aid and is a member of AACCA certified coaches. Along with coaching the cheerleading squad, he oversees the CSUB Dance team and Rowdy the mascot.
