ATHERTON, Calif. - Five of the seven Roadrunner wrestlers competing at the Menlo Invitational earned top four finishes leading CSUB to a fourth place team finish Sunday in Atherton.
The 'Runners earned 96.5 points, trailing just St. Cloud State (184 points), Southern Oregon (163) and host Menlo College (101 points).
"Everyone wrestled pretty well, " said CSUB Assistant Coach Brian Cobb. "There were some matches that we should have won and didn't, but overall it was a good performance."
Bakersfield's top placewinner was heavyweight David Morgan, who finished second. The junior won three straight before dropping a close 3-2 decision of Southern Oregon's John Bates in the championship match.
Earning third place finishes were Justin Durham at 133, Sam Barnhart at 149 and Daniel Montanez at 165. Donavan Barela was fourth at 141.
Pins were the Roadrunners' choice victory as Barnhart won three of four bouts by fall, Durham and Barela won two each by fall and Montanez recorded one fall victory.
CSUB continues Pac-10 action Friday, traveling to San
Louis Obispo to take on Cal Poly at 7 p.m. The 'Runers then travel to
Stanford where they will face Drexel University and Columbia University in a pair of neutral site duals on Saturday.
