Rain Ruins Judge's Final Meet As A Roadrunner

AUSTIN, Texas – Sometimes you really do have to blame it on the rain.

Trying to compete in pouring rain on Saturday at the 2013 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Round, CSU Bakersfield senior Thomas Judge (Bakersfield, Calif., Garces HS) fouled out of the hammer competition to end his season.

With slippery and conditions that are far from ideal, Judge fouled on all three of his attempts. The weather has caused problems throughout the regional meet, including delaying the hammer competition from Friday because of lightning.

Despite not ending the season and CSUB career in a way that he would have wanted, just earning a spot to compete in the regional meet featuring some of the best athletes in the country, is a very honorable way for Judge to finish off his tenure as a Roadrunner.

He leaves as a two-time Great West Conference hammer champion and the GWC record holder. He first set the record with a toss of 184-02 in 2012 and then broke his own record while defending his title earlier this month with a throw of 190-09. Judge's career-best mark of 194-05 ranks 10th best in school history.
