BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In a very fitting way to cap of an exciting and historic first season of sand volleyball at CSU Bakersfield this spring, the Roadrunners have been featured in the June 2013 edition of Volleyball Magazine.

There are two different sections highlighting the Roadrunners in action. One section is called “All-Stars Visit Irvine Valley College” and recaps CSUB's match vs. Irvine Valley College on March 29 when United States 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist sand volleyball players April and Jen Kessy scrimmaged CSUB's Debora Araujo (Jr., Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Western Nebraska C.C.) and Yuan Fu (Jr., Beijing, China/Missouri State-West Plains).

The layout includes seven photos of the Roadrunner duo taking on Ross and Kessy, as well as a photo of CSUB assistant coach Tori Grafeman with Butch May, the father of U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Misty May-Treanor and a sand volleyball legend himself. There is also a full-page photo of Araujo shaking hands with Kessy and Ross after their match.

The other section recaps and shows action photos from the USA Volleyball Collegiate Cup Challenge at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif., in mid-March. The spread includes more action shots of Fu, as well as one of CSUB's Julia Bowen (Jr., Ontario, Canada, Wilfrid Lauer Univ.) and Danika Youngblood (So., Salt Lake City, Utah, Western Nebraska Community College).

Perhaps the best photo is a celebration shot of Shayna Guitare (Jr., Torrance, Calif., Pierce College) after she and Mariah Alvidrez (R-So., Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) won a game in  match against Pepperdine's Kim Hill and Lilla Frederick, two of the top players in the nation who make up the No. 1 pairs team for the top team in the country.
