In adding
another fixture in the middle, the CSU Bakersfield volleyball team took a step
toward rounding out its 2012 roster as the Roadrunners have received a National
Letter of Intent from Pratt Community College's Sara Aloisio.
Aloisio, a
native of Rome, Italy, who has spent a large portion of her life playing
competitive volleyball, will be transferring to CSUB as a junior with two years
of eligibility remaining after playing two seasons at Pratt Community College
in Kansas.
"Sara grew
up competing at a very high level in Italy and we are looking forward to her
bringing her outstanding defensive blocking game to our gym," said CSUB head
coach Jolene Shepardson. "She is a very aggressive player."
The
5-foot-11 middle hitter played for coaches Brian Dickens and Patrick Hall at
Pratt Community College. At Pratt, Aloisio registered 242 kills, 67 blocks and
87 digs. She finished with an average of 2.24 kills per set.
The
Roadrunners have now signed five incoming players to the 2012 squad as Aloisio
joins Star Tucker-Campbell, Yuan Fu, Kelsee Sawyer and Tamar Fowler. The group
will help the up-and-coming 'Runners, who were the sixth most improved team in
Division I volleyball in 2011 in Shepardson's first season as head coach after
she helped the program rebound from an 0-31 season in 2010 to an 8-18 season in
2011.
