Bakersfield, Calif., - CSU Bakersfield head men's basketball
coach Rod Barnes has added the second piece to his 2012-13 squad with the
signing of Corey Hall from Ventura College to a National Letter of Intent.
Hall, a Chicago, Ill., native has played the previous two
seasons for the Ventura College Pirates under head coach Joey Ramirez and was
an instrumental part of the team's 19-11 campaign last season. Hall, a 6'7" 210-pound forward averaged 12 points and
11 rebounds last season while shooting 46 percent from the field and 37 percent
from three-point range.
"We're excited to add Corey to our
team and to our family," Barnes said. "On his visit he was a great fit with our
team and had a great bond with them off the court, so we expect the same thing
to happen on the court next season."
Barnes says Hall will be a
valuable addition thanks to his versatility as he can play both inside and
outside. Hall helped advance Ventura to the Southern California Regional
Semifinals last season when he scored 16 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as
Ventura upset the fifth seed LA Southwest College in the first round. Hall
scored 18 points and pulled down 22 rebounds in their semifinal loss to San
Bernardino Valley College.
Hall was named All Western State Conference North Division
last season and was placed on the All-Tournament team at the Irvine Valley
College Classic.
"Corey is a great rebounder and a
great defender and he helps us address an area of need with the loss of seniors
Donald Johnson and Rashad Savage in the post," Barnes said.
Hall is the second player to sign
with the Roadrunners following Sacramento High School forward Erik Kinney, who
signed his letter of intent during the fall signing period.
The newcomers will join eight
returning players from last season's 16-15 Roadrunner squad that advanced to
the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. Three other players that redshirted in
2011-12; Brandon Barnes, Javonte Maynor and Kregg Jones will be returning to
the active roster next season.
