SAN DIEGO, Calif.
- Freshman Lauren Holbrook (Bakersfield, Calif., Liberty HS) concluded her
impressive tournament debut as a member of the CSU Bakersfield women's golf
team by shooting a two-round score of 162 to finish in a tie for 11th
place in the inaugural Super San Diego Women's Collegiate Golf Championships
hosted by Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday.
Holbrook shaved
two strokes off of her first-round score of 82 on Monday by carding an 80 on
Tuesday. The Roadrunners improved as a team on the second day of the
tournament, which was held at Riverwalk Golf Course, and jumped up from 12th
to 10th place in the 19-team field. CSUB cut off nine strokes from
its first-round team score to finish with a 679.
"I am real proud
of how we played on the second day," said CSUB women's golf coach Tony Bernardin of the Roadrunners' performance in their first tournament of the
season. "The course conditions were more difficult, but we managed to improve
our team score by nine strokes."
CSUB's Vanessa Boileau (Sr., Palmdale, Calif., Paraclete HS) trimmed five
strokes on her first round with an 82 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 30th
place with a 169. Malea Miller (So., Bakersfield, Calif., Bakersfield College)
also showed improvement, shooting nine strokes lower on her second round with
an 82 for a total of 173 to finish in a tie for 52nd place. Micah Lopez (Fr., Bakersfield, Calif., East Bakersfield HS) tied for 56th
place with a two-day total of 175.
Cal
Poly took the team title with a two-round score of 634. Cal Poly's Laura Howard
and Asia Adell battled it out for the individual title, needing a two-hole
tiebreaker to determine Howard as the overall champion (81-75-156).
The
Roadrunners will tee off next in the Cal State Fullerton Invitational Feb.
19-21.
